Guide 256. Parent Involvement Policy and Procedures Reference

1. Purpose

Roberto Clemente Charter School will jointly collaborate in the development and implementation of a written parent involvement policy and procedure with parents, school staff, and administration.

2. Authority

Roberto Clemente Charter School will select a parent representative to serve on the steering committee who is responsible for sharing information with the principal or designee.

Home and School Association and Roberto Clemente Charter School will jointly review amendments and/or changes of the Parent Involvement Policy proposed by the school or parents prior to the presentation for Board approval. This will take place on an annual basis or as deemed necessary.

Roberto Clemente Charter School will provide coordination, technical assistance, and other support necessary to assist staff and parents involved in planning and implementing effective parent involvement activities to improve student academic and school performance.

Roberto Clemente Charter School will educate all staff to work effectively with parents as required by NCLB and will involve parents in the development of training for teachers, etc. to improve the effectiveness of such training.

Roberto Clemente Charter School will develop a written Parent Involvement Policy that will be unique to each school to increase active participation of parents and communication.

Roberto Clemente Charter School shall involve parents in the planning, reviewing, and improving of programs.

Roberto Clemente Charter School shall provide materials and training to help parents with their children, such as literacy training and using technology, to foster parent involvement.

Roberto Clemente Charter School will deliver information to parents about programs, report cards, state standards, assessments used and proficiency levels students are expected to meet in a format and language that parents understand.

Roberto Clemente Charter School shall provide opportunities for regular meetings and timely responses for questions and suggestions.

Roberto Clemente Charter School shall provide assistance to parents in understanding the state's academic content and performance standards, state and local assessments, how to monitor a child's progress and work with educators to improve the child's performance.

Roberto Clemente Charter School will provide full opportunities to increase and sustain active participation from parents including those with limited English proficiency or with disabilities, including providing information to the extent practicable in a language parents understand.

Roberto Clemente Charter School will have a complaint/compliance procedure in place.

Roberto Clemente Charter School will notify parents of bi-annual Parent Advisory Committee meetings held in October and May with representatives of the Parent Involvement Steering Committee, building level representation and all community partners receiving federal funds to ask questions, share concerns, and discuss pertinent topics.

Roberto Clemente Charter School must jointly develop with parents a school-parent compact that outlines how parents, the school staff, and students will share responsibility for improved student achievement.
